SobhanAllah what a grand mother I have. Since I’m the only child in my family and have no immediate relatives in Sweden I’m rather lonely when it comes to blood ties. Once in my childhood my parents paid a ticket from Iran to Sweden for my grand mom to come and visit us, especially me since they knew I was a bit sad that all children usually visited their grand parents and uncles and aunts while I never did that. I barely knew their names. But when I met my grand mom I became her best friend. We played soccer (she was the goalie), I even put roller blades on her! So she is like one of the few in my family that I have a personal connection and memories with. I often feel regret though that I don’t call her as often as I ought to. It is usually on Eids and sometimes in between when I’m at my parents house. Anyhow since Eid Ghadir is among the most important occasions for my mother’s family I decided I’d give her a call.

She answered, I said “Salam!” and she was like, “Haji Ehsan is that you?!” I’m like, “Yeesss!” tearful already. She said, “I felt that you will call me!!” and I’m like SobhanAllah. I said, “What are you doing grandma?!” She said, “I’m eating iftar!” and she continued champing her food. I was like 2x SobhanAllah. What a grand mom I have. A +70 year old weak woman betting the crap out of many of our youths who skip fasting due to poor excuses. Certainly when these youths come on Judgement Day and say “I couldn’t fast, I got a head ache, I was too weak” I will be proud that my grand mom will be put forth as an example where upon they will be told, “If this old woman could fast, then certainly could you as well!”

I love my grand mom! ♥
